Connect with other fishermen in Thailand
With a couple of hours to spare I headed out to a new fishing spot i’d heard of in Ban Chang, Rayong. The google maps location literally translated to “Fishing in the middle of a field”, so I was initially quite excited at the thought of fishing a quiet pond in the fields outside of town. Unfortunately, this pond was the dirtiest pond i’ve ever fished.
The pond is small and quite deep in the centre and the owners have built a number of shelters around the pond, which are sturdy and comfortable. Each of these shelters was surrounded by piles of empty bottles and discarded packaging, more akin to a teenage hangout than a fishing pond. I’m all for a couple of beers while waiting for a bite, but this place clearly hadn’t been cleared up in weeks.
Worryingly, there were at least 20 dead Tilapia floating around the lake, and this coupled with the fact that i caught a striped catfish at the hottest part of the day suggests to me that the something is off with the water quality at this place. Although, it must be said, the Tilapia that I caught seemed healthy, as did the catfish.
